Medicare Plan B, also referred to as Medigap Plan B, offers the same benefits as Plan A. Additionally, Medicare Plan B pays your Part A hospital deductible for you. This is a significant additional benefit as the Medicare Part A deductible is over $1,500. This deductible tends to increase each year.

Hospital deductibles are paid per-incident, so this is an important benefit. Medicare Plan B pays the deductible, even if you incur this cost multiple times in the same year.
What is covered under Medicare Supplement Plan B?
Medicare Plan B covers everything Medigap Plan A covers, plus your hospital deductible. This means Medicare Plan B covers 100% of the costs associated with the following:
- Medicare Part A coinsurance payments for inpatient hospital care (for up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted).
- Medicare Part B co-payment or coinsurance expenses
- The first three pints of blood used in a medical procedure
- Part A hospice care coinsurance expense, or co-payment
- Part A hospital deductible
Hospital deductible coverage is an important addition as this benefit alone could save you several thousands of dollars if you have more than one hospital stay in a single year.
